In March 1968 Seweryn Blumsztajn was 22 years old. He was studding at the time a Political Economy at the University of Warsaw. He was one of the so-called 'commandos' - an anti regime student group, to which also belonged Adam Michnik, Barbara Toruńczyk and Jan Lityński
On the 8th of March, the University of Warsaw students organised a rally to defend Adam Michnik and Henryk Szlajfer, who were expelled from the University.
- Young people generally lack imagination. We did not ask ourselves simplest questions. And what would happen next? Would someone follow us? What would they do to us? - he said. Subconsciously, we attempted to transform the university into a kind of an asylum of freedom. Did we really believe that Poland can become such a place? Supposedly not. But we believed that certain issues can be fought for. The imperative of the day was that it is necessary to keep trying.
